The importance of training to innovation

The Commonwealth has acknowledged the importance of innovation and has released an innovation strategy document called “Backing Australia’s ability: An Innovation action plan for the future”. It argues that “success in the 21 st century will depend predominantly on the innovative capacity of nations, their industries and their research and educational structures” (Commonwealth of Australia 2001, p.4) and acknowledges the importance of skills development in this process.

People value organisations who invest in their development. Training clearly contributes to creating and retaining talent whilst fostering better enterprise performance.

"Mark remained assertively strong, yet approachable throughout the full course of training. It was very clear that Mark had the complete respect of new recruits as they went about their procedural training and information gathering."
Phil Gazzard, Managing Director, Kent, U.K.

Innovative solutions for staff satisfaction

A program run by FORD, UK allowed employees an allocation of 200 pound per year to spend on health/fitness NOT related to work. 30% of employees took the opportunity to learn French, drama etc. Adopting this strategy helped employees to regain an appetite for learning which influenced and re-engaged them at work, providing extra motivation and willingness to learn.
